Vehicle: 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee/XJ
Application: Fits XJ with 6cyl or 4cyl engine with 14" dimension/crossmember location (see below). We have models for the 4.0L engine with automatic or manual transmission. This skid plate fits with V6 and 4 cylinder engines as well, but the oil drain hole is designed for the 4.0L and won't be in the correct location for these other engines. Installation requires drilling only 1 hole and clears factory and most aftermarket headers. It's mounting height is also adjustable to accommodate changes in your exhaust system. It protects your oil pan, exhaust, and transmission from damage no matter what the trail throws at you. Not only does it provide protection, but it prevents your Jeep from getting hung up on the transmission cross-member by providing a smooth surface to slide over obstacles with. One easily installed skid plate provides the complete protection you need to feel confident while on the trail.
Use the diagram below to determine which model fits your Cherokee. The distance between the back of the lower control arm and the edge of the cross-member determines which part number you need. "D" should measue approximately 10" or 14".
Mounted in three locations, it provides you with the best protection you can get for your Cherokee. And you don't have to remove it to change your oil! This engine skid plate mounts to the transmission cross-member at the rear. On the passenger side it mounts using the bolt for the lower control arm. On the driver's side there is a two piece mounting hoop that goes over the driveshaft and attaches to the lower control arm bolt also. All of this makes for a very sturdy skid plate that gives you plenty of clearance for your driveshaft and exhaust.
Specs: These skid plates are made of 3/16" thick steel that is laser cut and CNC folded for consistent quality that sets the standard for Jeep skid plates. They are also reinforced with 1/4" thick steel angle along the driver's side to provide plenty of strength while easily clearing both your exhaust system and your driveshaft. (Most of our competitors have interferences with one or the other, but not Skid Row!) Our skid plates are also sand-blasted prior to being powder-coated to assure that the finish adheres better than our competitor's coatings. We use a semi-gloss black for an attractive finish that's easy to touch up when necessary.
